Making Youtube Work For Your Internet Business

Well, there are a number of ways to make Youtube profitable for you. Many people upload videos everyday and by the same time the next day, have thousands of views already to their video. Now is this possible? Can the same reality happen with you too? Well of course it can, and that?s what I will help you to do today.

Youtube isn?t something that you can instantly get rich off of. Even if your video gets alot of views, there?s still a small percentage of people who will actually visit your website. I would say about 5%. So if your video gets 100 views, only 5 people would have clicked on your website link. And there?s nothing wrong with that.

If you want more views and more traffic to your site, do the most obvious thing: upload more videos. This is something that shouldn?t come as a surprise to you. Many people are uploading multiple videos per day, because they know that the more videos they upload, the views they will get, the more traffic they will get, the more subscribers they will get, and the more sales they will get. It?s just internet marketing 101 here.

Now if you?ve tried Youtube in the past and it hasn?t been producing for you in the way that you wanted it to, you shouldn?t give up. Be persistent and swap out anything that you think is causing the problem as to why you aren?t getting alot of Youtube views. Now I know for sure that videos that show people talking or music videos get a ton of views. This approach is much better than just doing an on-screen presentation.

With yourself in front of the camera, people will feel like they can ?connect? with you. And in fact, it doesn?t matter if your camera shy or if you have a funny accent... you will still find people who will like your style and who would follow you and subscribe to your Youtube channel.

Now when you make your video, make sure you list your website address at the bottom of the video. This will not be clickable, but it?s very important because some people will take your Youtube video and post it on their site for their visitors to view. And if you have your website address at the bottom of the video, people will easily know where to go to get more information about you.

And also? be sure to include your website address in your description box ? preferably at the very beginning. This will turn your link into a clickable link, and people will have the opportunity to just click on your URL instead of typing it into their web browser?s search bar.

Youtube can be excellent for marketing your online business. You will want to take it seriously if you want to have the kind of online marketing success in your business that you?re looking for. Youtube is the number 3 ranked website on the internet (in terms of traffic), so you can definitely tap into this lucrative source of traffic.

Take these tips and put them into use today.

Good luck with your Youtube marketing.

Macedonian opposition rallies to demand early elections

SKOPJE (Reuters) - Several thousand people rallied in front of the headquarters of Macedonia's rightist ruling party on Saturday demanding the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and early elections.

The rally was the culmination of days of smaller countrywide protests provoked by an incident last week when the opposition was ejected from the parliament after a disagreement and a brawl over the size of next year's budget.

"We have already decided, we will go to the end, until we finally win and bring democracy back to this country" Branko Crvenkovski, the head of the opposition Social Democrats, told the cheering crowd.

Last week the government proposed a 148-billion-denari ($3.2 billion) budget for 2013 last month, forecasting a deficit of 3.5 percent of gross domestic product. It put growth next year at 2 percent of GDP.

But the left-wing opposition condemned the budget proposal as profligate at a time of austerity and demanded a cut equivalent to about $260 million. The government refused and the opposition then submitted about a thousand amendments to the draft before tensions flared on Monday.

The government pushed the budget vote with just over half of deputies present, prompting the opposition to initiate a campaign of civil disobedience.

At the rally, Crvenkovski said his party's backers will maintain protests until the government steps down, paving the way for early elections organized by an independent body.

Parliamentary elections in Macedonia are tentatively slated for 2015.

Macedonia, a former Yugoslav republic, wants to join the European Union and NATO but it still faces opposition from neighboring Greece which says that its name is a territorial appropriation of the name of a northern Greek province.

The country is also facing tensions between its Macedonian Slav majority and ethnic Albanian minority.

Pinterest Sued by Former Business Partner of Early Investor - Liz ...

Pinterest has arrived at that special milestone for any successful start-up: The day you get sued by someone who says the whole thing was his idea.

pinterest_scalesTheodore F. Schroeder of Ocean City, N.J., filed a lawsuit yesterday in New York district court, alleging misappropriation, unjust enrichment and breach of fiduciary duty against Pinterest and its early investor Brian Cohen.

?The lawsuit against Pinterest is baseless and we will fight it aggressively,? a spokesman for Pinterest said today.

Update: Schroeder?s attorney,?Richard Scheff of Montgomery McCracken, emailed the following comment:??The bottom line is that it?s illegal to steal an idea for your own benefit without regard to the originator of that idea. Here, Mr. Cohen?joined an existing enterprise in which Mr Schroeder had a majority interest, and then took without permission or right Mr. Schroeder?s ideas, concepts, web application and technology.?

Cohen did not reply to a request for comment.

Schroeder?s complaint says that he and Cohen worked together in 2007 and 2008 on a start-up venture that was an antecedent to Pinterest. According to Schroeder, the ideas he built for that project ? called Rendezvoo, and later, Skoopwire ? were incorporated into Pinterest, which Cohen provided early funding for in 2009.

Rendezvoo was a ?a Web site where people meet to share opinions, views, items and tastes on a variety of subjects ? product, services, events, politics, economics ? nearly anything of human interest? with about 5,000 users. It included two ?lynchpin? concepts that later found their way into Pinterest: ?Boards? for posting content and so-called ?infinite scrolling,? where users don?t have to load another page to view more content.

Plus, Schroeder said, Rendezvoo had a ?pink and purple color scheme to attract female users,? and Pinterest is now well-known for its appeal to women.

Schroeder and Cohen, who is a public relations entrepreneur and chairman of the New York Angels investing group, had worked together on Rendezvoo as well as a later pivot called Skoopwire, which was a free press-release service for new products. Cohen, who served as chairman and CEO, apparently pushed the team away from its more Pinterest-like ideas for Rendezvous, and then later he and Schroeder had a falling out over equity and roles.

The lawsuit accuses Cohen of striking a ?Faustian deal? with the founders of Pinterest. ?In 2009, a year after Cohen had caused a deadlock ? Cohen had given Plaintiff?s ideas and applications to young entrepreneurs.?

One particularly oddball aspect of the case is that, outside of the lawsuit, I wasn?t able to find much of any information about Schroeder. He is apparently a Columbia Law School graduate and Internet entrepreneur who has virtually no online presence ? unless perhaps he is the Ted Schroeder of Ocean City, N.J. who owns a gluten-free taco shop.

Update: According to Scheff, Schroeder is not the taco shop owner; he is a young practicing lawyer and ?self-taught computer genius??working in the Philadelphia region at a company that he does not want to disclose.

Little time left to head off longshoremen's strike

NEW YORK (AP) ? Shipments of products as varied as flat-screen TVs, sneakers and snow shovels could sit idle at sea or get rerouted, at great time and expense, if more than 14,000 longshoremen go on strike as threatened ? a wide-ranging work stoppage that would immediately close cargo ports on the East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico to container ships.

Commerce could be brought to a near standstill at major ports from Boston to Houston if the strike takes place on Sunday, potentially delivering a big blow to retailers and manufacturers still struggling to find their footing in a weak economy.

"If the port shuts down, nothing moves in or out," said Jonathan Gold, vice president of supply chain and customs policy at the National Retail Federation. And when the workers do return, "it's going to take time to clear out that backlog, and we don't know how long that it's going to take."

The 15 ports involved in the labor dispute move more than 100 million tons of goods each year, or about 40 percent of the nation's containerized cargo traffic. Losing them to a shutdown, even for a few days, could cost the economy billions of dollars.

In addition to transporting goods, U.S. factories also rely on container ships for parts and raw materials, meaning supply lines for all sorts of products could be squeezed.

"The global economy moves by water, and shutting down container ports along the East and Gulf coasts while the national economy remains fragile benefits no one," Deborah Hadden, acting port director at Massport, the public agency that oversees shipping terminals in Boston. It is not a part of the contract dispute.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott said "the livelihood of thousands of Florida families lies in the balance."

The master contract between the International Longshoremen's Association and the U.S. Maritime Alliance, a group representing shipping lines, terminal operators and port associations, expired in September. The two sides agreed to extend it once already, for 90 days, but they have so far balked at extending it again when it expires at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

The union said its members would agree to an extension only if the Maritime Alliance dropped a proposal to freeze the royalties workers get for every container they unload. The Alliance has argued that the longshoremen, who it said earn an average $124,138 per year in wages and benefits, are compensated well enough already.

Federal mediators have been trying to push negotiations along, but there has been no word from either side on the progress of the talks since Dec. 24. As recently as Dec. 19, the president of the longshoremen, Harold Daggett, said the talks weren't going well and that a strike was expected.

The work stoppage would not be absolute. Longshoremen would continue to handle military cargo, mail, passenger ships, non-containerized items like automobiles, and perishable commodities, like fresh food.

Joseph Ahlstrom, a professor at the State University of New York's Maritime College and a former cargo ship captain, called container ships the "lifeblood of the country."

"We don't fly in a lot of products. It's just too expensive," Ahlstrom said. "The bulk of the products we import come in inside containers."

The White House has weighed in on the issue, urging dockworkers and shipping companies Thursday to reach agreement "as quickly as possible" on a contract extension. Obama spokesman Matt Lehrich said the administration is monitoring the situation closely.

If it happens, the walkout could be the biggest national port disruption since 2002, when unionized dockworkers were locked out of 29 West Coast ports for 10 days because of a contract dispute.

The ports only reopened after President George W. Bush, invoking powers given to him by the 1947 Taft-Hartley Act, ordered an 80-day cooling-off period. Some economists estimated that each day of that lockout cost the U.S. economy $1 billion. It took months for the retail supply chain to fully recover.

An East Coast port freeze would have its biggest impact at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where 3,250 longshoremen handled 32.3 million tons of cargo in 2010. The authority is not a party to the contract dispute.

Other major ports affected would include Savannah, Ga., which handled 18 million tons, and Houston and Hampton Roads, Va., which each handled more than 12.5 million tons.

Thousands of other jobs would be directly affected by the shutdown. Truck drivers might not have any cargo to transport, tug boat captains no ships to guide and freight train operators nothing to haul.

Simultaneously, another labor dispute involving dock workers was playing out on the West Coast.

Longshoremen at several Pacific Northwest grain terminals worked Thursday under contract terms they soundly rejected last weekend. The owners implemented the terms after declaring talks at an impasse. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union has yet to announce its next move.

Workplace rules, not salary and benefits, have been the obstacle to a new deal.

The dispute involves terminals in Portland, Ore., Vancouver, Wash., and Seattle, where longshoremen have been working without an agreement since the last contract expired Sept. 30.

Grim milestone: Chicago records 500th homicide

By Lauren Jiggetts and Lauren Petty, NBCChicago.com

A man gunned down Thursday on Chicago's West Side marked what police say is the city's 500th homicide of the year. It's a dubious distinction that hasn't occurred since 2008, when the city ended the year with 512 murders.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel called the total "an unfortunate and tragic milestone, which not only marks a needless loss of life but serves as a reminder of the damage that illegal guns and conflicts between gangs cause in our neighborhoods."

"The brave officers of the Chicago Police Department work tirelessly to continually reduce crime, but this is not just a law enforcement issue,"?Emanuel said in a statement.

Police are releasing few details about the shooting in the 4900 block of West Augusta. The man, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as 40-year-old Nathaniel T. Jackson, was shot around 9 p.m. and pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital at 12:18 a.m.

Tawfik Salman, owner of Noah Foods, said he heard four or five gunshots and dropped to the floor.

"It was pop pop pop pop," Salman said. "We seen a guy laying down in front of the store. I just went to the phone and called police."

According to police, homicides are up 17 percent from last year and shootings up 11 percent..

"It's sad you know. I guess this is part of the violence in Chicago," Salman said. "It's a sad thing that's going on."

At a peace dinner held Thursday, residents came together to talk about ways to end violence. Alderman?Anthony Beale, who is running for Jesse Jackson Jr.'s old 2nd Congressional District seat, said Supt. Garry McCarthy needs to change strategies.

"His philosophy is not working,"?Beale said. "We need to put resources where the problems are, and then you will see crime drop across the city."

Chicago surpassed 2011's 435 murder total in October

Police said Chicago's 499th homicide victim was a man who died after he was shot at least four times ? including in the face and chest ? in a Gage Park neighborhood alley Wednesday night on the Southwest Side.

Frederico Martinez, of the 5400 block of South California Avenue, died from gunshot wounds he suffered near his home, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner?s office.

Police said the 32-year-old Martinez was standing with a female in an alleyway down the block from his home when a light-colored pick-up truck approached and somebody inside opened fire.

Martinez was shot in the face, chest and both arms and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 10:41 p.m., authorities said.

Behind the troubling statistics, flashing lights and crime tape, communities throughout the city are searching for solutions.

"There's no magic spell that can end it. It's a matter of people and neighborhoods coming together and deciding that it's not going to happen," said neighbor Robert Grider.

Larry Pickens, who is running in the special election in the 2nd Congressional seat, offered a few suggestions Thursday: "Teaching our young people alternative dispute resolution, non-violent strategies for addressing conflict and getting guns off the street."

When Buying A Condo Beware Of The Transitory View | Getting Real

By Gary Lucido, Wednesday at 6:42 am

When Buying A Condo Beware Of The Transitory View

"There is nothing permanent except change." The best real estate advice when buying a condo in a downtown Chicago high rise may have come from Heraclitus around 2500 years ago. Just because a condo has a great view today doesn't mean it will have a great view tomorrow. The Chicago skyline is constantly changing and you never know what is going to be torn down to make way for a much taller building that will destroy your million dollar view.

When searching for a condo with a great view the number one question that buyers often have (at least they should have this question) is what could be built outside their windows. A good sign: your windows look out over a park or a historic building or you're right on the lake or river. A bad sign: your windows look out over a parking lot/ garage or a cruddy building or, God forbid, a vacant lot. And don't be fooled by a little sliver of land that looks too narrow to build anything on. You'd be surprised what these developers will build on.

However, your judgment in these matters will be clouded by realtors attempting to close a sale by sharing all sorts of "expert opinions" on the permanence of a particular view: "This area has a zoning restriction so buildings can't be taller than _____" or "That building is only going to be_____stories tall" or "That land belongs to_______ so they will never build on it" or "3 developers tried to get a building approved for that location but the alderman keeps blocking it". I've heard them all.

Well, realtors really need to be careful with what they say because it's a flagrant violation of the Illinois Real Estate License Act to just make stuff up or assert as fact something you can't be totally sure of: "Licensees shall treat all customers honestly and shall not negligently or knowingly give them false information." In fact, there have been cases of buyers suing realtors for misrepresenting the permanence of a view. Crain's recently reported on two such lawsuits involving disappearing views in Chicago.

The first lawsuit goes back to 2004 when two buyers sued the Fordham's developer for failing to disclose construction of a high rise next door. The second lawsuit, for $50,000, was recently filed by two law professors from the University of Chicago (talk about picking the wrong buyers to tangle with!) who bought unit 3702 at 600 N Fairbanks in Streeterville for $1.05 MM in August. The listing agent allegedly "assured them an adjacent medical office building planned by Northwestern University Hospital would only reach 24 stories" when in fact it will rise to the 36th floor of their building. In addition, the listing agent and the seller "allegedly told the plaintiffs not to discuss the purchase with building management or residents once it went under contract, keeping the plaintiffs from discovering the true height of the tower before closing".

If this latter claim is true it's just plain weird. I could almost understand trying to keep buyers away from other residents but trying to keep them away from the building management? I actually try to encourage my buyers to talk to the building manager and having a listing agent trying to block that would be a huge red flag.

When you're talking about whether or not a view will be blocked it's caveat emptor big time. The only way to protect yourself from the cacophony of wisdom spewing from realtors' mouths is to listen to it with a large nugget of salt. Either have your realtor research it further (unless they're the one making the claims) or research it yourself. That means checking the zoning or calling the alderman's office or just applying some basic logic.

AIG Is The Best Insurance Play For 2013 - Seeking Alpha

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours. I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it (other than from Seeking Alpha). I have no business relationship with any company whose stock is mentioned in this article. (More...)

Introduction

AIG is an insurance conglomerate that spans the globe, but during the great recession like many other giant financial institutions, AIG got itself into a lot of trouble taking on the counter-party risk of mortgage backed securities. During the 4th quarter of 2008, AIG set the world record for reporting the biggest loss. It lost $99.3 billion dollars in a single quarter.

Despite the hazy past, AIG is the definition of a turnaround story. I anticipate the company to generate outstanding earnings growth going forward, and that investors will be able to earn some phenomenal yields by investing into AIG.

Qualitative Analysis

Source: Information pertaining to AIG came from the shareholder annual report

The company currently operates one of the largest insurance networks in the world, with more than 85 million clients in 130 countries. AIG is split into four business divisions: Chartis, SunAmerica Financial Group, Aircraft Leasing, and other operations.

Chartis offers a unique portfolio of insurance products and services. The insurance products are: casualty, property, financial lines, and specialty. Chartis conducts its business through multiple entities such as: New Hampshire Insurance Company, American Home Assurance Company, Lexington Insurance Company, AIU Insurance Company, Chartis Overseas, Fuji Fire & Marine Insurance Company Limited, Chartis Europe Holdings Limited, and Chartis Europe.

SunAmerica Financial Group - offers a comprehensive suite of products such as: term life, universal life, fixed/variable annuities, mutual funds, financial planning. The SunAmerica Financial Group operates under these subsidiaries: American General Life Companies (American General), Variable Annuity Life Insurance Company (Western National), SunAmerica Retirement Markets (SARM).

AIG's other operations primarily consisted of derivatives trading, and aircraft leasing. The other operations: International Lease Finance Corporation, AIG Markets, United Guaranty Corporation, AIG Financial Products, and AIG Trading Group Inc.

Currently AIG generates 91% of its revenue through the SunAmerica Financial Group, and Chartis.

AIG's current management strategy remains simple: by 2015 achieve return on equity above 10%, generate share growth in mid-teens, grow insurance divisions, and reinvest retained earnings.

AIG aggressively competes with Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A/BRK.B), The Travelers Companies (TRV), Chubb (CB), Allstate (ALL), Loews (L), Progressive (PGR), Hartford Financial Services (HIG), CNA Financial (CNA), among many others.

Technical Analysis

The stock has been on a continuous up-trend since November 2012. On 12/24/2012 the stock is between a very narrow symmetrical triangle formation. I anticipate the stock to break out no later than the 26th or 27th, meaning that the stock will be forced to make a major move.

Source: Chart from freestockcharts.com

The stock is trading above the 20-, 50-, and 200- Day Moving Averages. The stock will experience further upside through 2013, as investors have under-bought the growth prospects of the company.

Notable support is $23.00, $27.30, and $30.60 per share.

Notable resistance is $37.50, $46.00, and $60.00 per share.

Analysts on a consensus basis have high expectations for the company going forward.

Source: Table created by Alex Cho, data from shareholder annual report

The EPS figure shows that throughout the 2003-2006 period earnings were growing due to favorable economic conditions. Then the company was adversely affected by the great recession throughout 2007-2009, as the net income rapidly declined, and AIG eventually logged the biggest loss in corporate history. During 2010 the company was able to generate a profit by restructuring the company; this involved selling business units, which inflated earnings by $17.7 billion dollars. Once the United States economy exited the recession in 2010-2012 the company earnings have improved, albeit gradually. In 2011 the abnormal earnings of $8.60 were due to a provisional benefit from taxes worth $18.03 billion dollars. The improvements in net income for 2010-2011 were one-time events and should not be considered a part of the long-term earnings growth trend. So in essence, 2012 is likely to be the most normal year for AIG over the past 5 years.

Source: Table created by Alex Cho, data from shareholder annual report

By observing the chart we can conclude that the business is somewhat cyclical and is affected by macroeconomics. Therefore one of the largest risk factors to AIG is the slowing of international gross domestic product growth. So as long as the global economy continues to grow, the company will generate reasonable returns over a 5-year time span based on the forecast below.

Source: Forecast and table by Alex Cho

By 2018 I anticipate the company to generate $10.19 in earnings per share. This is because of earnings growth, improving global outlook, earnings management and continued development overseas.

AIG currently trades at $35.20. I have a price forecast of $37.94 for 2013. AIG is in a long-term up-trend. I anticipate momentum in the price of the stock, as the growth rate offers compelling stock appreciation for the foreseeable future.

Short Term

Over the next twelve months, the stock is likely to appreciate from $35.20 to $38.60 per share. This implies 9.6% upside from current levels. The technical analysis indicates an up-trend (break above the symmetrical triangle formation). While the previously mentioned price forecast using fundamental analysis further supports the trade set-up.

Investors should buy AIG at $35.20 and sell at $38.60 to pocket short-term gains of 9.6% in 2013. This return is pretty measly, meaning that short-term investors would likely do better investing in other opportunities.

Long Term

The company is a great investment for the long-term. I anticipate AIG to deliver upon the price and earnings forecast despite the risk factors (macroeconomic, competition, etc.). AIG's primary upside catalyst is international development, and earnings management. I anticipate the company to deliver upon my forecasted price target of $100.12 by 2018. This implies a return of 185% by 2018. This rate of return is exceptional, considering AIG has a market capitalization of $52B. The extra liquidity makes this a compelling growth investment for institutional investors who require higher liquidity.

Conclusion

Buy AIG on long-term growth. AIG has not died off the surface of the earth; it is more stubborn than a roach.

The conclusion remains simple: buy AIG.

Egypt constitution approved by voters, parties say - World News

Nasser Nasser / AP

An Egyptian election worker shows his colleagues an invalid ballot.

By NBC News staff and wire reports

CAIRO - A constitution drafted by an Islamist-dominated assembly was approved by a majority of Egyptians in a referendum, rival camps said on Sunday.

The Muslim Brotherhood, which propelled President Mohamed Mursi to power in a June election, said 64 percent of voters backed the charter after two rounds of voting that ended with a final ballot on Saturday. It cited an unofficial tally.

An opposition official also told Reuters their unofficial count showed the result was a "yes" vote.

Official results are not expected until Monday. If the outcome is confirmed, a parliamentary election will follow in about two months.

Mursi's Islamist backers say the constitution is vital for the transition to democracy, nearly two years after the overthrow of autocrat Hosni Mubarak in an uprising. It will provide stability needed to help a fragile economy, they say.

But the opposition accuses Mursi of pushing through a text that favors Islamists and ignores the rights of Christians, who make up about 10 percent of the population, as well as women. They say it is a recipe for further unrest.

"According to our calculations, the final result of the second round is 71 percent voting 'yes' and the overall result (of the two rounds) is 63.8 percent," a Brotherhood official, who was in an operations room monitoring the vote, told Reuters.

His figures were confirmed by a statement issued shortly afterwards by the group and broadcast on its television channel.

Regional news channel Al Jazeera also reported that early indications suggest the draft constitution will be approved.

"It appears at the moment that in the region of 68 per cent of voters have approved the draft constitution, some 32 percent have voted against," said reporter Mike Hanna in Cairo.

The Brotherhood and its party, as well as members of the opposition, had representatives monitoring polling stations and the vote count across the country.

The opposition said voting in both rounds was marred by abuses and had called for a re-run after the first stage. However, an official said the overall vote favored the charter.

"They (Islamists) are ruling the country, running the vote and influencing the people, so what else could we expect," the senior official from the main opposition coalition, the National Salvation Front, told Reuters.

Opponents of Egypt President Morsi say he's betraying the revolution, but his supporters say he wants to guarantee human rights with a controversial referendum on a new constitution. NBC's John Ray went onto the streets of Cairo to hear from both sides of the deepening divide.

The vote was split over two days as many judges had refused to supervise the ballot.

"I'm voting 'no' because Egypt can't be ruled by one faction," said Karim Nahas, 35, a stockbroker, heading to a polling station in Giza, in greater Cairo, in the last round.

At another polling station, some voters said they were more interested in ending Egypt's long period of political instability than in the Islamist aspects of the charter.

"We have to extend our hands to Mursi to help fix the country," said Hisham Kamal, an accountant.

The build-up to the vote witnessed deadly protests, sparked by Mursi's decision to award himself extra powers in a decree on November 22 and then to fast-track the constitution to a vote.

Hours before polls closed, Vice President Mahmoud Mekky announced his resignation. He said he wanted to quit last month but stayed on to help Mursi tackle the crisis that blew up when the Islamist leader assumed wide powers.

Mekky, a prominent judge who said he was uncomfortable in politics, disclosed earlier he had not been informed of Mursi's power grab. The timing of his resignation appeared linked to the lack of a vice-presidential post under the draft constitution.

The new basic law sets a limit of two four-year presidential terms. It says the principles of Islamist sharia law remain the main source of legislation but adds an article to explain this. It also says Islamic authorities will be consulted on sharia - a source of concern to Christians and others.

In the first round of voting last week, the district covering most of Cairo voted "no," which opponents said showed the depth of division.

"I see more unrest," said Ahmed Said, head of the liberal Free Egyptians Party and a member of the National Salvation Front, an opposition coalition formed after Mursi expanded his powers on November 22 and then pushed the constitution to a vote.

At least eight people were killed in protests outside the presidential palace in Cairo this month. Islamists and rivals clashed in Alexandria, the second-biggest city, on the eves of both voting days.

Bengaluru, Karnataka -- Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospitals, one of the country's leading healthcare groups, has set a milestone in the medical history of Rajasthan by performing a breakthrough rare surgery for Congenital Scoliosis, a congenital spinal condition. Dr.Lalit Sharma, Spine Surgeon, Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital, Jaipur showcased the rare surgery performed using the advanced growing rods technique on the 8 year old boy, who was suffering from Congenital Spine Deformity.

Scoliosis is about two times more common in girls than boys. It can be seen at any age, but it is most common in those over 10 years of age. Scoliosis refers to a condition wherein the spine of an individual has an abnormal curve. While certain amount of curve within the spine is essential for maintaining balance, scoliosis is characterized by abnormal and side to side curving in spinal column. The earlier the onset of scoliosis, usually the worse it is.

The conventional surgery used to correct such kind of spinal condition is called Spinal Fusion, which is generally performed only after the patient turns 12-14 years of age. The biggest disadvantage of spinal fusion is that it hampers the growth of the fused segment of spine permanently.

Therefore, the advanced growing rods technique used for surgical intervention is considered revolutionary as it uses multiple rods which can help in the normal growth of the spine without repercussions. As the child grows, the multiple rods are made to grow while keeping the spine in corrected position.

Dr.Lalit Sharma, Spine Surgeon, Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital Jaipur explained about the rare surgery, "Growing rods is one of the most modern and a revolutionary concept in the field of Spine Surgery as it allows growth of spine and correction of deformity simultaneously."

Mr.Arunesh Punetha, Chief Administration Officer (CAO), Narayana Hrudayalaya, Jaipur, Told that "The Narayana Hrudayalaya institute of Bone, Joint and Spine is the most comprehensive centre for Orthopaedic treatment in Rajasthan where an entire spectrum of treatment for Trauma, Joint replacements, Spine disorders, Arthroscopy and limb surgeries are done by a team of consultants trained at leading centers in the World. In a short span of 2 years, this team has done a lot of high end work like this 'growing rod treatment for scoliosis' which has made it a leading referral centre in this part of the country. There is a significant need for scoliosis treatment which predominantly afflicts the underprivileged sections of our society which Narayana Hrudayalaya will try to serve in the time to come."

Father of patient, Mr.Rajveer Yadav thanked the doctor, "We are very grateful to Dr.Lalit and Narayana Hrudayalaya for changing life of my son. We were bothered a lot by his deformity which was progressing at a fast pace."

Diagnosing scoliosis early and preventing it from progressing can save the patient from developing other related issues such as chronic back pain and arthritis. Getting surgical intervention can help prevent the development of arthritis of the spine in the later years. Although only a physician can accurately diagnose scoliosis, it is important for parents to be alert about the warning signs.

Early detection tips:

If you notice any of the following signs, schedule an examination with a pediatrician or orthopedist:

??? * Uneven shoulders
??? * Prominent shoulder blade
??? * Uneven waist
??? * Elevated hips
??? * Leaning to one side

Be green this holiday without being a Grinch

7 hrs.

Have you heard about the great Christmas tree debate? The one where you try to figure out which is worse for the environment, chopping down a perfectly good live?fir or shipping a factory-made plastic one all the way from China? Well, the truth is, it's not that big of a deal. If you're dreaming of a green Christmas, there're other issues that take precedence.?

?You can have the most leverage elsewhere,? Jean-Sebastian Trudel, founder of Ellipsos, a sustainable development consulting firm in Montreal, Canada, told NBC News.?

Yes, the tree debate gets our eggnog-filled noggins thinking about the environmental impact of the holidays, and about the decisions we make on everything from the?lighting in our?decorative displays?to food, packaging, and electronic waste.

How about?wrapping a gift in?recycled paper that you decorated by hand? "Any time you get started [thinking and acting green], the chances of continuing that are better than if you don't start at all,"?Cindy Parker, the co-director of the Program on Global Sustainability and Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, told NBC News.?"The holidays are a really nice time to do that."

That?darn?tree debate
For what it's worth,?Trudel and his?colleagues took the natural versus artificial tree debate seriously enough to perform a definitive life-cycle analysis?back?in 2009 that got to the root of the matter. They concluded natural trees are better, but only because people tend to toss their artificial trees after?six years.

?You need to keep an artificial tree for more than 20 years for it to become the better option,? he said.?

The comparison was between a natural tree grown in Quebec and a plastic one from China. If the natural tree had been grown farther away and trucked into town, or if the artificial one was?made with environmentally?friendly materials, the scales could tip the other way.?

More than 80?percent of households that display a tree will have a fake one, according to the?American Christmas Tree Association, a trade group for makers of the artificial variety.

?If you?ve already got an artificial one, stick with it and hopefully go through that 20-year lifespan with it,? Jenny Powers, a spokeswoman with the?Natural Resources Defense Council?(NRDC), an environmental organization, told NBC News.

Otherwise, the organization recommends purchasing or renting a potted living tree and either planting it after the holidays or returning it to the store. If living trees aren?t an option, then get a cut real tree and make sure it finds an afterlife as wood chips or garden mulch.

Trudel said that people who are preoccupied with this debate should really let it go, relax, and enjoy the holidays. Then, when it is time to return to work, do so on a bike or in a carpool. That will have a much more profound impact on the environment than tree choice.

Twinkle,?twinkle LEDs
The lighting choice is prevalent to anyone out for an evening stroll or drive around the neighborhood where houses and shrubs shine bright with holiday displays.?

Simply switching out traditional lights with new, energy-efficient LED lights is a sure way to save money and help the planet, according to Johns Hopkins'?Parker.

A few years ago, the cost of?such lights was prohibitive, but today they are comparable with traditional lights, she noted, and they use a fraction of the energy. Using them means electric bills are much smaller and, in most places of the country, using them means fewer greenhouse gas emissions as well.

?It is a gift you can give your community and the rest of the world,? she said.

You get a gift, too:?It doesn't hurt that LED bulbs last longer, aren't a serious fire hazard,?and are less apt to burn out, rendering your whole strand useless.

Wrap?up the?waste
For many of us, the best of part of the holidays are the?packages under the trees, and the delights they contain. Those gifts can bring a myriad of enviro-woes, however.

Annual trash from gift wrap and shopping bags in the U.S., for example, amounts to 4 million tons, according to Use Less Stuff,?publishers of a newsletter that teaches "source reduction."?And household waste, in general, rises 25 percent in the weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year?s Day.

?We don?t necessarily need to buy reams and reams and reams and reams of brand-new brightly?colored paper to wrap up our gifts,? said?Parker. Rather, she said, wrap gifts in something useful, such as a dishtowel.

For those driven to use wrapping paper, choose post-consumer recycled paper or the comic section of the newspaper, suggested the NRDC's Powers.

However the package is wrapped, what?s in the package could open another can of environmental concerns, especially if it is a shiny-new must-have gadget to replace that almost-shiny-new must-have gadget found under the previous year?s tree.

The question is: what to do with the old one?

?Instinctually, we all kind of know it is not the kind of product we just toss in the trash,? Powers said. ?There is good reason for that. Not only is there personal information on there but some of these things also contain potentially toxic materials.?

To get rid of this so-called e-waste, she recommends using a service such as Earth 911 to find a local electronics recycler. ?It is a good way to recycle the one you just retired as well as the ones you may have hidden in a basement corner.?

Gathering for the feast
The holidays are also?a prime time to join with family and friends?around the dinner table. For better and worse, much of the food that doesn't add to the waistlines ends up adding to the?waste bin.

America loses up to 40 percent of its food from farm to fork, NRDC reported earlier this year. To reduce waste, do some advance planning ? buy and prepare food that works well as leftovers, and have a plan to share the leftovers with?family, friends and food banks.?

?This is probably the best time of the year to think that through, and do the same thing all year long,? Powers said.

Gathering family, too, has its costs. Planes, trains and automobiles tend to be sources of greenhouse gases that are causing the climate to change. If the option exists, take a bus or train instead of a?plane, recommends Powers.

But, she added, the holidays are an important time of the year to be with family and loved ones. Go ahead and travel. Maybe cut down business travel later in the year and do a video conference instead. ?I?m not really going to suggest you don?t go see your loved ones,? she said.

In other words, it?s possible to be green during the holidays without being a Grinch. All of these options ? from the tree choice to travel choice ? are about?staying as?efficient and eco-friendly as possible, not simply depriving yourself.

?All of it is about extending that spirit of giving beyond, including to?your community, but also, frankly, the planet,? she said. ?And I would like to say that that is very un-Grinch-like.?

It's our duty ? all of us ? to fight for the open web ? Tech News ...

When you use an app, or a platform like a mobile phone, or a social network, or a web service ? whether it?s from Google or Apple or Amazon or Facebook ? do you think about the extent to which it is open or closed? Or do you just think about how it looks, or what it lets you do, or whether your friends are using it? Most of us probably fall into the latter category, but as veteran blogger Anil Dash and others have pointed out recently, there are some good reasons why we should care about the future of the open web, and be concerned about a trend towards more closed networks. As natural as that trend might be from a commercial point of view, it is the antithesis of what made the internet so powerful.

In his post, Dash ? a former staffer at Typepad, one of the early blogging platforms, and co-founder of Thinkup and the media-consulting company Activate ? tries to outline some of the things that we have lost as the internet has changed from a wide-open network to a host of proprietary platforms and closed formats. Some are likely to resonate more with hard-core geeks than with ordinary users, but I think he makes a number of really important points about what we are giving up when we hand over so much of our online (and mobile and social) behavior to companies like Facebook, Apple and even Google, that would-be champion of openness.

1) Control over our online identities

As Dash notes, less than a decade ago, ?if you introduced a single-sign-in service that was run by a company, even if you documented the protocol and encouraged others to clone the service, you?d be described as introducing a tracking system worthy of the PATRIOT act.? Microsoft in particular spent billions trying to introduce a single sign-on platform for the web, and failed miserably in several different incarnations. And yet now, millions of people are more than happy to use their Facebook or Google identity as a default sign-on for almost every website and service they visit, which of course gives those companies oceans of valuable data.

2) Control over our personal data

In the early days of the consumer web, the idea that a single network or service would be able to control much of the data about you and your online behavior and purchasing habits ? even with your permission ? would have been almost unthinkable. And as Dash points out, those services that did have what we now call ?user-generated content? made it relatively easy for users to download or share the content they created, because that was the expectation. While Google makes a point of allowing users to download data via what it calls its internal ?data liberation front,? services like Facebook only allow access to some of the data they hold and block users from downloading other information (such as the email addresses of friends).

3) Control over where our content appears

road closed

Dash notes that the early days of the consumer web ? particularly with the rise of blogs and hosted platforms like Blogger and WordPress ? created a ?broad expectation that regular people might own their own identities by having their own websites, instead of being dependent on a few big sites.? But as networks like Twitter and Facebook and Google+ (and before them MySpace and Friendster and others) have become more prominent, many web users seem happy to hand over their content and much of their online behavior to platforms that are owned and controlled by a single corporation, and networks that in some cases are based on proprietary standards. As Dash points out, this is partly due to the fact that such services make it so easy to create and share content.

?Five years ago, if you wanted to show content from one site or app on your own site or app, you could use a simple, documented format to do so, without requiring a business-development deal or contractual agreement between the sites. Thus, user experiences weren?t subject to the vagaries of the political battles between different companies, but instead were consistently based on the extensible architecture of the web itself.?

If you don?t care whether it?s open, who will?

Although Dash doesn?t go into it in detail in his post, it?s worth pointing out that before the rise of the open and more personally-controlled consumer web that he describes, the way that many people experienced the internet was through closed and proprietary platforms like America Online and CompuServe ? a series of walled gardens that many have compared to the rise of Facebook ? and that persisted into newer technologies like instant messaging. Eventually more open services took over, as consumers shrugged off closed networks in favor of more open standards.

Law professor Tim Wu, who coined the term ?net neutrality,? has argued that technology markets (including earlier versions such as electricity and the automobile) often go through cycles of being open and closed. Companies that rose to prominence because of the open internet in many cases try to lock down their services once they have become successful, in order to make it harder for others to compete or to make monetization easier. This trend, however natural, is one of the reasons why some have criticized moves by networks like Twitter to close down or control the way their data is used and which other networks they inter-operate with.

holding-ipad-feature

The rise of mobile technology has made this kind of closed approach even more commonplace, in part because device makers and service providers like Apple and Amazon want to lock their users into their ecosystem as much as possible, so that they can recoup the costs of developing the devices and services they sell. But this approach involves even more proprietary methods than we are used to with almost any other technology platform, with app stores and services that are completely closed and centrally controlled (with the notable exception of Google?s Android platform).

But the garden is so beautiful, and the walls so distant

The most difficult part of this phenomenon is that many ? and perhaps even most ? users seem happy to live in Apple?s walled garden or Amazon?s closed ecosystem or Facebook?s proprietary network, because they are so appealing. In other words, the garden is beautifully maintained by its owner, and the walls are difficult to see until it?s too late. And open systems like Android and Linux just seem like? well, like a lot of work. But as blogging and open-web pioneer Dave Winer has argued, if we aren?t prepared to do the work, then we get the internet we deserve.

Why should we care? Because as some of the architects of the early internet have pointed out ? including the web?s creator Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Ethernet co-developer Vint Cerf, who has been lobbying against proposals by the United Nations aimed at regulating the internet ? openness is what made the internet so powerful in the first place. Without the ability to distribute information to almost anywhere, from almost anywhere, using open standards that supported multiple clients and services, we literally wouldn?t have the internet as we know it. Why are we all so quick to build walls and allow others to build them on our behalf? Says Dash:

?To the credit of today?s social networks, they?ve brought in hundreds of millions of new participants to these networks, and they?ve certainly made a small number of people rich. But they haven?t shown the web itself the respect and care it deserves, as a medium which has enabled them to succeed. And they?ve now narrowed the possibilites of the web for an entire generation of users who don?t realize how much more innovative and meaningful their experience could be.?
