Pretty Little Liars Season Finale Reveal: A Letdown?

SPOILER ALERT: On last night's Pretty Little Liars season two finale, the ABC Family hit revealed the identity of the individual who has been stalking residents of Rosewood. Stop reading now if you wish to delay your surprise.

So... that was it?!?

After months of saying her show would plot a different course from the books on which it's based, Pretty Little Liars creator Marlene King revealed the identity of A to be Mona, the same person guilty of such crimes in the novel.

Moreover, is she even A? If she simply working for A? Should we refer to the anomyous individual to whom Mona spoke at the conclusion of the episode as B?

While any season finale needs to build momentum and mystery heading into a break, this one seems to have simply pretended to answer a major question while, in reality, just extending the same question as always to this summer when PLL returns.

Won't someone still be stalking the girls? Won't viewers still be wondering who is out there? What actually changed last night?

The battle against breast cancer can be an uphill struggle and one local woman is in the fight of her life.

Jennifer Merino Lopez, 35, from Bastrop County has been battling breast cancer since Sept. 19, 2011. She is supported by her loving family, including her husband and three young children.

After a full mastectomy, two rounds of chemo, discovering a spot on her lungs and her liver, she still continues to fight on.

?Six months later I am still fighting for my life,? she said.

Her brother has watched ? and admired ? Lopez through her fight.

?My sister is one of the strongest, most giving people I?ve ever known. She has always been one of my best friends and strongest supporters,? said Eric Merino.? I hate to see her go through this, but I have no doubt she will defeat this monster of a sickness.?

Lopez had to quit her job and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

?The fight is long, hard and very expensive. God is our provider and our rock and shield,? Merino said.

Lopez can recall that her fondest memories of her childhood were spent at her Granny Coy?s house in Smithville and now her family has organized a fundraiser for March 24 at the American Legion Hall in Smithville.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and barbecue plates are $7 a plate. Proceeds will go directly to the Lopez family to help take care of medical expenses.

Other activities planned for the event are a live auction starting at 4 p.m. and a dance from 7-11 p.m. with live music by Rian C. Band and Christian rap artist, Merino.

?My advice to other cancer patients is to not give up, listen to your body and get ready for the fight of your life,? Lopez said. ?I have met so many strong people through this journey and I have hit an all-time physical low but a definite spiritual high.?

For thousands of years, dogs have been our companions. After countless generations of selective breeding, they've become hard-wired to follow human commands: sit, lie down, jump, even shake.

So far, most other animals don't come close. But what if they could?

In 1954 a Russian geneticist named Dmitry Belyaev wanted to isolate the genes that make dogs so easy to train. He started a fox farm in Siberia and set out to do with foxes in one lifetime what took dogs thousands of years.

Belyaev died in 1985, but others carried on his work; 50,000 foxes later, the project isn't complete, but it's close.

"So close. It's the last step," Ceiridwen Terrill tells weekends on All Things Considered host Guy Raz.

Terrill is associate professor of Science Writing and Environmental Journalism at Concordia University of Portland, Ore. She's also the author of Part Wild: One Woman's Journey with a Creature Caught Between the Worlds of Wolves and Dogs, a book about raising a dog-wolf hybrid.

Terrill recently visited Belyaev's fox farm, which she says looks like dilapidated army barracks.

"What you have are rows and rows of sheds that house about a hundred foxes each," she says. "There's about 3,000 foxes on-site."

Those foxes are so tame, Terrill was able to reach into one of the cages and give a fox a good belly-scratching.

"They're genetically designed to crave human contact," she says, "so that fox loved having its belly scratched."

Terrill says there are individual foxes who have been able to sit and fetch on command. But to prove true domestication, "it's really important that we see it on a large scale. It has to be in a systematic way," she adds.

"The experiment demonstrated that these foxes are indeed genetically tame," Terrill says. "Now what we don't know is if these foxes are truly domestic. And that can only be done by socialization and training. We won't know if that's possible unless foxes and humans are living together."

The experimental Siberian farm is selling fox cubs to allay its financial difficulties, but Terrill says they're not going to make good house pets.

"They promise that for just under $7,000, that you can get a fox on your front door that's four months old," she says. "Well, at four months old, the fox's socialization window has closed.

"They haven't been socialized to life in a human household in the way that a dog has, for example."

Better by far, Terrill says, to choose one of the many millions of dogs and cats who end up in American shelters every year.

"We have so many companion animals in desperate need of homes," she says.
