ITV commissions 'Downton Abbey II' called The ... - BBC World News

ITV is hoping to emulate the success of Downton Abbey with the commissioning of a new period drama, The Making of a Lady. The drama is based on the classic novel by Frances Hodgson, The Making of a Marchioness, and comes from the playwright and author behind both The Secret Garden and A Little Princess. ITV has commissioned period drama The Making of a Lady, after the success seen with Downton Abbey (ITV) It will be produced by Runaway Fridge TV as a single film for ITV1. Katy Brooke, who wrote The Forsyte Saga and Wired, is to adapt the romantic novel for the small screen. Victoria Fea, from ITV?s Drama commissioning team, said: ?There?s a real depth and complexity to the characterisations within The Making of a Lady. ?Kate Brooke draws beautifully upon the richness of Frances Hodgson Burnett?s novel and we?re delighted to have commissioned such a classic and powerful story.? Viewers will see educated but poor Emily coming to realise that she must marry for survival purposes rather than any loving or romantic notions. Stevie Lee, the executive producer for Runaway Fridge TV, described the story as ?fresh?, adding that it was ?a period story that very few people know?. Filming for The Making of a Lady is to get underway from late August this year.
