Travel And Leisure ? The Republic Of Ireland | Golden Wisdom ...

The Irish national standard is a vertical tricolor that uses the colors orange, white and green in its design. This national standard was first adopted in the year 1919 and hence flown from Irish and such flagpoles for a while. Interestingly, it was adopted in the constitution some years later in ?37. The orange vertical band is located on the fly-end.

Ireland is part of the EU, and is located in the western part of the European continent. The republic is not the only country to fly a tricolor type standard from national flagpoles. Belgium, France and Italy also fly a representing tri-color type banner from their national flag poles.

Like the Irish tricolor, the French tricolor features a vertical white stripe in the center. Unlike the Irish flag, the French tri-color displays the color blue on the hoist side, and a red vertical band on the fly-end. Called the ?Tricolore,? this standard is the national flag of the republic of France

Interestingly, the meaning of this tri-color remains to be defined by the Irish Constitution. The national government has said that green represents the so-called ?Gaelic? tradition of the republic. Orange symbolizes the folks that followed William of Orange. White symbolizes peace between the two colors.

Many that have traveled to Western Europe will likely have seen the Irish flag flown from smaller and taller Irish flag poles. This standard was flown during the Easter Rising. At the time it very much caught the imagination of many as the tricolor that represented a ?new country.? It became more of a national standard in the then years following.

Considered a ?modern knowledge? economy, This country has focused their economic efforts on services of all kinds, including technological industries, and is dependent on trade and (foreign) investments. The world recession(s) that hit the world in 2008, hit Ireland very substantially. Like other countries, property values plummeted dramatically. The country was in fact the first nation to enter into a recession in the E.U. Because of the economic circumstances on the island, many Irish have or are considering emigration.

One guideline that is considered perfectly normal is the instruction to replace a national standard when it shows signs of tear and wear. Flags hoisted on tall flag poles in high wind areas will likely damage faster than standards flown from smaller flagpoles.
